Back to Back Wins!!!

What a great weekend of racing in Michigan. Back to back wins!! Cherry Speedway & I-96 Speedway. This is so what the team has been needing. Darren was in the redraw Friday night and our daughter Mya got to draw his starting number. She drew a #1! Saturday night we were in the redraw again due to another awesome night of racing. A boy named Preston got to draw Darren's Starting spot and drew a #1. Started on the poll both nights!
The car was just good, drivable, and fast all weekend long. Thanks to Joe & Tim and all the crew who made both these wins possible.

Next weekend we are back with the tour racing in Lake Ozark, Mo on Saturday night.

Michigan

We are on our way to race at Cherry Speedway Friday night and I-96 Speedway Saturday night. The tour has the weekend off so we will be racing with SOD up in Michigan.

The ASCS will pick back up Next Saturday night at Lake Ozark Speedway, Mo.

Confidence Growing for Darren Long and JGRacing.

This past Saturday evening the JGRacing 3g with driver Darren Long made the return trip to Little Rock with one desire; to improve upon their last trip to the track. That goal was accomplished and then some and with the confidence growing in every team member we could see some very exciting things in the very near future.

Starting sixth in his heat race Darren had the confidence in his car to move forward. A bad start that saw the 3g squeezed into the outside retaining wall he fell back one spot to seventh but luckily all was not lost. Using patience and a well tuned Gaerte Chassis the JGRacing entry finished up in the fourth position just shy of entry in to the A.

Starting this time on the outside of the front row for the B Darren would need to maintain or improve his position to gain entry for the feature and he did just that. While the pole starter took off as the laps clicked down the 3g was gaining on him and took the checkered flag just behind him.

For the feature the blue and black 3g would start on the inside of the tenth row. Darren was looking to use something in his arsenal that worked well in his heat race, patience; and this approach worked very well. After Joe and Tim made some changes to the car Darren now had a car to roll around the bottom but he could also use the top when needed. Using time and opportunity well the JGRacing entry crossed under the checkered flag in 11th place moving the team up the standings closer to their quest to get into the top-10 in points.

Little Rock Update

Darren drew a high number in the draw at the beginning of the night. He had to start 6th in the last heat race. Made it up to 4th in his heat. Had to then start 2nd in the 1st B Main and finished 2nd. This 2nd place finish in the B Main allowed him to go to the A Main and start 19th in the A main. Darren was able to make his way, on the bottom of the track, to 11th place! A great night of passing points and having the car good to make things happen. After last nights race Darren is 13th in the ASCS National points!
This weekend they will be off to Eagle, Nebraska for a two night show Friday & Saturday with the tour.

Little Rock, AR

Tonight's race in Oklahoma has been postponed to the end of September. We will just he racing in Little Rock tomorrow night. You can listen live tomorrow night on WWW.racinboys.com.
Darren and the guys will be rushing home right after the race to make our nephew Derrik's highschool graduation on Sunday afternoon. Please keep them in your prayers as they travel.
Congrats goes out to Derrik!!! Good luck next year at Bluffton College.

Kansas 2nd night Update

We survived 2 long nights of racing. Last night Darren had a great pill draw and started 1st in the 1st heat and Won it! He was straightaways ahead of everyone. He started 11th in the A Main. His car was very tight and fell back to 19th place when the yellow flag came out with 15 laps to go. Darren said he pulled the wing back at the yellow and he was off. He was passing cars like crazy. He made it all the way back up to 11th place when the checkered flag was thrown.
All in all a very successful weekend of racing. After this weekend Darren is 15th in points on the ASCS National Tour!

Kansas update

What a very long day yesterday. 93 degrees and sunny too. Due to track conditions the race took awhile to get under way. Racing didn't get over until 1:30 am Kansas time. We drew a good number which put us in the 4th heat starting 3rd. Darren finished 1st in his heat! He looked very good out there and was way ahead of everyone and even started to lap cars. He was then in the redraw and started 5th in the A Main. He looked very good out there until he got to high in turn 3&4 . The wind down there didn't help either and it took him tight over the edge. He got pushed back on the track and had to start at the back of the pack. He was passing cars very nicely and was able to make it back up to 13th for the final finish.
We have gotten some sleep and food and now at the car wash preparing for tonight's race. Hope its not a long night again. We are driving straight through tonight to book it home by Monday night.

Thanks for all you who are coming together with us to pray for the Jesse Hockett family. I can't imagine his wife just being married in February and loosing the one you love. The drivers have In Loving Memory stickers on their cars. Also right before the green flag of the feature the cars go three wide. The front row was missing two cars. One in memory of Steve King for the Steve King Memorial weekend and the other spot was for Jesse. It brought tears to my eyes watching it and thinking of the families they left behind. A reminder to be thankful for each moment we have with our loved ones.

We are praying for the Jesse Hockett family in their time of loss of Jesse. This weekend won't be the same. This loss is reminding us to live each day to the fullest, that each day we are given is a blessing, and to always tell the ones you love.....I love you. This has also been a reminder to me that our life here is short and we never know when or how God is going to take us. So thankful I know for sure that when I die I will spend eternity with Jesus. It's a free gift he offers us, but so many choose to reject it. May this young life of Jesse make us all evaluate our lives and make the changes we need to make it even better.

Practice at Putnamville Proves Productive for Darren Long and JGRacing.
This past week on Tuesday Darren, Joe, and Tim decided it was time to do a little bonding and spend some time alone, at the race track. So the 3g was loaded up and Lincoln Park Speedway was the destination to find combinations that will work on the Gaerte Chassis.

Friday-Limaland Motorsports Park.
Starting fourth in the fourth and final heat Darren was looking to prove that Tuesday was time well tuned. At the drop of the green flag the throttle was immediately applied; Darren was wanting to win. Splitting the cars that were in front of him going into turn one the 3g was into the lead before the end of the first lap and never looked back. P1 was the finish of the heat.

With an invert of four pulled from the hat that would put the Gaerte Engines entry on the pole for the 25 lap feature. With the B20 shooting out into the lead on the initial start Darren settled in to a quick and comfortable pace in second place. As the race continued on Darren had slight trouble keeping pace with the leader but there were no challengers for the second step of the podium. The car however became “tighter” as the race moved on forcing Darren to throw it into the corners. About five laps shy of the finish JGRacing found out why. A problem with the driveshaft caused Darren to pull off ending his run. 12th place is where Darren finished.

Saturday-Crystal Motor Speedway.
With a front row start for the heat the bad pill draws that had been hampering the team must have decided to take a vacation. Laying down the hammer the blue and black 3g went going, going, gone winning his second heat race of the weekend.

On the initial start of the feature Darren shot out in the lead but a caution negated it bringing everyone back into two wide formation for a second try. Knowing that the track would be taking rubber early in the feature this second start would be extremely important. The second start would not go as well placing Darren in the second spot once things got rolling. He didn’t give up and a close battle ensued between the 3g, 2m, and the 91. Dustin Daggett would prevail with Darren right on his bumper. Shortly after this the rubber came in making the track one lane. Knowing that attempting a pass would lose him several spots Darren watched for a mistake ready to pounce. This never did happen and the Gaerte Engines entry finished up in the 2nd position.

This weeks Red Line Oil question is; what was the end result of Darren’s first trip to Eldora? And with no winner for last week we will be having a second question. Where was Darren’s first sprint car win? The winner for the first question will receive a Hoosier Tire t-shirt and the winner of the second question will grab a hold of a 2010 Darren Long t-shirt.

Crystal, Michiganl Update

We were at Crystal, Michigan on Saturday night. With rain over the horizon we were hoping we could get the race in. Light rain came at the start of the night, but soon passed through. We were starting 1st in the 3rd heat. Darren had no trouble getting that race car to go. He was off and a full straight aways ahead of everyone. Because of his good finish he was in the redraw to determine where he'd start in the A Main. He drew a 2. More light rain moved in with the question of, how long is this going to last? The rain moved on through again and they took to the track. At the start of the A Main Darren was off and away until a yellow flag followed before the 1st lap was even in. They had to restart start side by side again. Darren slid just enough in turn 1 to let the 2m through and the chase for 1st was on. Darren looked great out there, but really good in turns 3 & 4. It seemed like every time he tried to pass in turn 4 a yellow was out and a single file restart again. With 1 lap to go he almost had 1st again and then another yellow flag. The last lap he still couldn't gain that 1st place spot. He had to settle for 2nd. Darren was sure putting on a show for everyone that night. The crowd around me began to cheer and scream with me in hopes it would some how help, but just couldn't get it done. Darren is happy that the car was fast all weekend and that they are headed in the right direction.

Lima land update

Last night we started 4th in the 4th heat. Finished 1st. Car was fast Darren said. Invert number was 4 which put us on the poll for the feature event. After the start Darren slipped back to 2nd. With several yellows it didn't help. Looked like Darren was trying to wheel in for 1st. Half way through the race Darren had to pull off the track due to drive line failure. Car was fixed at the race track last night and we are on our way to crystal, michigan now. Praying rain can hold off to get another night of racing in.

Homecoming Nets Darren Long and JGRacing another Top-5.
Familiarity can really help out when a new team is looking for seat time and laps to find combinations that work for all concerned. After the ASCS National events for this past weekend were cancelled Darren, Tim, and Joe decided to make the ten minute trip to his home track of Limaland Motorsports Park this past Friday evening.

Limaland-After a pill draw of, well high, Darren would start the first heat in the tenth and final position needing five spots to gain a transfer into the A-Main. After a tricky start where cars had trouble with their first laps of the season the JGRacing entry had to settle in and wait for an opening to charge through. As the cars fanned out just enough he began his march towards the front. With only being able to “race” just a few laps in the heavy traffic he earned his 5th place finish and grabbed a 13th place start in the feature.

Once again starting deep in the field discretion would be the better part of valor early on waiting for traffic, the drivers that is, to calm down seeing how this was the first race of the year for many of the teams. Early in the feature saw the blue and black 3g clawing it’s way into the top-ten but cautions and hard fought battles kept him on the outside looking in, but not for Long. During a caution about halfway through the feature the Gaerte Engines entry was sitting in the 11th position with a car that was starting to come in, when the green flag came out he began to pick off the competition until when the checkered flag flew 5th place is where Darren finished.

Lima Land Results

What a day of wonder. Wondering if we'd be able to get the race in last night due to the mass of rain that was coming into the area. We were told it was raining all around us, but not at the track. The team drew a very high number for the night which caused us to start dead last, 10th, in our heat race. (This has been our running luck so far this year) Darren went from 10th to 5th and made the final transfer spot to the A Main!! Too bad it wasn't with the tour and we could have had all those passing point. Oh, well... that's the way it goes. Rain started while Darren and the others were ready to go out for the final race. Weren't sure if it was going to be a wash out or not. We hung out in the trailer for a few minutes and then they called for them to get on the track. By this time rain had stopped enough to go out. Darren had to start the A Main in the 13th spot. The first few laps Darren was trying to find his groove out there on the track and make things happen. Towards the middle of the race Darren was passing cars like crazy. Yellow came out with 21 laps in and Darren was in 6th position. Darren was able to pass one more car after that yellow, but it was follow the leader those last 4 laps. Darren and Joe Gaerte Racing did a great job finishing 5th place for the night!!!

This week we will prepare for Lima Land next Friday night and then up to Crystal, Michigan for SOD's opening night on Saturday. Rain is in the forecast for the beginning of the week. I hope that means it's out of it's system for the weekend.

Memphis Cancelled

We found out this afternoon that West Memphis is cancelled for this weekend due to bad weather. It will be rescheduled for October 1st & 2nd.

We plan to run Lima Land tomorrow night for all you local fans.....weather permitting.

Races Cancelled Tonight

Racing at Lima land has been cancelled tonight due to the rain. We will be back with the Tour next weekend in Memphis.

Darren Long, JGRacing, Still Learning, Progressing out on the Road.

Any new combination takes some time to gel and learn what each other likes and wants. This past Friday Darren Long matched his best ASCS National finish in just the third night of this year and while Saturday did not go as planned, Darren, Joe, and Tim feel they are making huge strides forward.

Friday-Lone Star Speedway
With a solid pill draw and lining up on the outside of the front row JGRacing was ready to show off their stuff. Running on the top side of the track Darren maintained P2 the entire 8 laps earning a 14th starting place for the feature.

After replacing the bead-lock on the right rear tire that Darren placed against the outside wall in the heat and starting mid-pack the team was looking for a solid finish. Early in the race Darren encountered some minor issues and fell back to 18th settling in to his race pace. As the laps clicked off he was gaining ground even though the track took rubber in the opening circuits making it difficult to pass. With the checkered flag nearing its appearance Darren was in the 11th position but lost a few spots on the last restart because of the rear Hoosiers near loss of existence due to track conditions. 13th in the final running order is where the black and blue 3g ended up.

Saturday-I-30 Speedway
The luck of the draw did not continue for both nights and on Saturday a pill garnering the team an 8th place start in their heat was drawn. With the car just a little off against the strong competition the 3g was unable to make up any ground mailing Darren a 7th place start in the B-Main.

For the 12 lap B Joe and Tim went about changing some bars and the gear on the car giving Darren the confidence he could get the job done. Quickly making up ground the Gaerte Engines entry passed Johnny Herrera for 2nd place but on the very next lap a slight bobble caused Darren to push high in the corner and Johnny’s wealth of experience earned him the position back. Darren was unable to get back by finishing up 3rd, one spot out of transfer.

This week’s question is; what color is Tim Norman’s hair? I will add that there are three acceptable answers for this question. Should you give one of the three a Gaerte Engines T-Shirt will be your prize. Joyce Diller was our last winner. Congratulations Joyce!

Little Rock Update

After a long night of racing Friday night they had a 4 hour drive to Little Rock, AR for Saturday nights race. They drew a very high pill and that placed Darren 8th in the 3rd heat. In the heat race he finished last. Didn't go anywhere. Made changes to the car and had to start 9th in the second B Main to try and get one more shot at the A Main. Darren made it up to 2nd place and took the one corner to wide and the guy behind him got back around. Finished 3rd in the B main and they were only taking the top two cars out of each B main. Glad to know the changes they made were the right ones, but not good enough. Every driver will tell you it's tough competition and everyone is good out there racing. 53 cars showed up at Little Rock, AR.

Darren & the team made it back home this afternoon and trying to recover from all the traveling in between the two nights of racing. Long nights of racing.

We are looking forward to this Friday night at the Lima Land Motorsports Park Opener and hoping the rain can hold off. Looking ahead they are calling for rain all weekend.

Kilgore, Texas Update

Darren started 2nd in the 5th heat and finished 2nd. This allowed him to start 14th in the final race. Darren finished 13th out of 52 cars for the night!! He said car was good, but too many cautions and restarts or he feels they could have been better. We will see what tonight brings at I-30 speedway in Little Rock, AR. This Weekend in Texas & Little Rock

Everyone made it to Little Rock, AR last night. Some flew and some drove the truck and trailer. They will head four hours or so south to Kilgore, Texas this morning to race there tonight with the ASCS National Tour. After tonight's race they will head back to Little Rock, AR for tomorrow nights race. A lot of traveling in between this weekend. Happy Easter/Update

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter. We love the fact that Jesus died for us, but he didn't stay dead, HE ROSE AGAIN!! He is seated at the right hand of God the Father now. He's waiting for each of us to take that Step of Faith and turn our lives over to Him. We are so thankful that God's love for us is never ending and He's always there for us each and every day. This 2010 racing season is another Journey we are taking and looking forward to see what God has ahead for us. We try each and every day to trust and know God's in control. May we stop and count all your blessings this Easter and stop and see how God is or has been working in your lives. He loves you and we love you. Thanks for all your prayers and support as we start another Journey this year. We are so excited to begin. Racing and having time off in between is one thing we have already realized we don't like. Come next week we will be on the go, go, go. We are off to Kilgore Texas on Friday night and then driving to Little Rock, AR for Saturday nights race. Trio of Champions Team Up for 2010 Assault on ASCS National Tour

With Florida now done and over with and Ohio and Indiana still having a beautiful winter one of racings best kept secrets has finally seen the light of day. Joe Gaerte and Tim Norman, along with driver Darren Long are preparing for an all out assault at the 2010 ASCS National Tour Title as well as other selected 360 and 410 races throughout the year.

When Tim Norman, the long time driver of the 3g, decided to place his helmet on the shelf, at least for now, the call was made to plug the popular driver from Elida, Ohio into the Butlerbuilt and travel some more. With a top-5 finish in the Saturday evening Ronald Laney Memorial, along with a top-10 finish on the opening night JGRacing is looking forward to the rest of the season.

Quotes from the team concerning this year,
Darren Long- I want to be consistent everywhere and shoot for a top-5 in points at year end while also picking up my first national win.
Joe Gaerte- I am using this opportunity for two reasons. I’ve always wanted to have a car on a national tour and this could go a long way in raising additional exposure of my business Gaerte Engines. I hope to win at least one national event and five regional events, if not more.
Tim Norman- This is the best opportunity Joe and I have had to field a car nationally so we took it; I’d like to win 3 national events.

We raced last night at USA Raceway Tucson, Arizona. We struggled in the beginning of the night and had to run the B main. Started 5th in the B main and finished 3rd. This allowed us to advance to the final race starting 24th. We were able to pass cars and finish 15th.

We are at the track watching the second night of racing. We will race tomorrow night in hopes of making the final race of the weekend.

We were at Sharon Speedway last night. Started 7th in Heat race and finished 2nd! Had to redraw and drew 5th. Started 5th in feature and finished 3rd! Very happy with the race and how we finished. We were really battling for 2nd place. It was wheel to wheel at times.
We are at Erie Penn. tonight at Eriez Speedway.

Darren finished out the Limaland racing season with a good 6th place finish. Darren also ran in the Elwer Fence Sprints King race which he qualified for by winning a race at Limaland and finished 5th out of 6 drivers. Mother Nature postponed an awesome night of racing by a mere 24 hours. On Saturday, Limaland Motorsports Park concluded an incredible season of racing with two division championships being decided in the final features of the year. In addition to the evenings thrilling divisional competition, the annual King of the Quarter-Mile showdowns became the icing on the cake. By night’s end, Limaland Motorsports Park had four champions and three kings while the fans left with enough memories to hopefully get them through the off-season!

In the Engine Pro NRA Sprint Invaders feature, Dallas Hewitt took an early lead over Dale Blaney. On lap seven, Jared Horstman hit the wall in turn three and launched his car high into the catch fence. The fence held and stopped Horstman from flipping out of the park. Horstman came to rest back on the track, wheels down. Jared walked away from the car dejected but it is important to note the great strides he made in 2009. Once racing resumed, Blaney made quick work of Hewitt and set sail for the checkered flag. What Blaney didn’t see was Rob Chaney charging to second place and narrowing the gap to Blaney. Just as Chaney looked to be in position to challenge Blaney on lap twenty, contact with Neil Shephard’s lapped car caused Chaney to spin to a stop with some front-end damage. Blaney held the lead for the final five laps and recorded another victory at Limaland with Greg Wilson, Butch Schroeder, Tim Allison, and Dustin Daggett rounding out the top five. JR Stewart was unable to make the feature after a mishap in his heat race and his inability to transfer out of the B-main. That result was by no means a reflection of his second stellar year in the Hammons Motorsports #6s. Stewart, who had the Elwer Fence Sprints and Engine Pro NRA Sprint Invaders titles wrapped up the moment the green waved in his heat race, became the repeat champion in both series.

With all the championships finally decided, the King of the Quarter-Mile races were finally held. Rob Chaney passed JR Stewart and cruised to his 10-lap, $3000 victory. Todd Sherman and Jeff Babcock resumed their season-long battle in the Modified King race. Sherman claimed his fourth crown and left feeling a little better, and $2000 richer, after losing the championship title. The best race was the Bud Thunderstock King of the Quarter-Mile. Tony Anderson took an early lead and Jeff Babcock did everything possible to pass him. High, low, slidejobs, bumper taps, you name it and Babcock tried it. Unfortunately for Babcock, Anderson has seen it all and then some from his biggest rival and that experience allowed him to maintain his cool and collect the $1000 check to go with his 2009 Championship.

Limaland Motorsports Park would like to thank the fans, race teams, and marketing partners for supporting the racetrack during the 2009 season. Incredible Night

Wow, all I can say is Wow. We started 12th in the feature and WON!!!!

My night wasn't starting off to swell. Before I left my driveway my wife backs into my truck. Then I pull out of my neighborhood to find my truck and trailer on the side of the road by the ditch. The truck blew an oil line. The truck and trailer had to be pulled into the pits by a pick up truck. I thought this is going to be a great night. We finally drew a good number and started 2nd in the first heat and Won that. Then the invert number was 12. I knew the car was fast in the heat race and this was a main concern to me. I just needed to know this car was capable of doing something great since we haven't had a great season so far. Thanks to all you who have been praying for this team. We so needed this win as a team.

We are off to Fremont, Ohio to race tonight.

Limaland’s second big event of the evening was the annual NRA vs. 305 Challenge. Thirty-eight sprint cars registered to compete in this two-night challenge, which culminates in a final race at Fremont Speedway. Darren Long, who has been noticeably absent from Limaland Motorsports Park competition while competing on the ASCS National Touring Series, worked some of his home-track magic and won round one of the NRA/305 Challenge. Feature number one was the Engine Pro NRA Sprint Invaders vs. 305 Challenge. Luke Hall took an early lead with Jared Horstman and John Ivy in tow. The only red flag of the evening came out on lap five after a restart for debris. Stuart Brubaker flipped several times in turn three after making contact with the wall. Brubaker was able to walk away from the scene and racing resumed. Hall was able to maintain a small advantage over Horstman, but both cars were running the high-line against the wall. Long, who started 12th, had worked his way to third by lap fourteen. A few laps later, Long took advantage of traffic, which was running the leaders’ line, and streaked by on the bottom-side to take the lead. From that point on, it was Darren Long’s race to lose and Luke Hall could do nothing to catch him. JR Stewart maintained his stranglehold on the NRA and Limaland season championship as he finished a solid third.

My dad and I arrived back home last Tuesday afternoon from Oregon. We were so excited to be back home and with family again.

It has been go, go, go since we have been home. Both of my cars came back from out west needing repairs. Two of my frames have been at the welders and will be back tomorrow. The last few days have been reorganizing and putting together another car.

We will be heading out to Knoxville, Iowa this Wed. for the 360 Nationals.

Darren moved into the "A" Main with first place finish in the second "B" Feature. However Darren finished in 22nd in the "A" Main after a rough ride down the backstretch with 13 laps in the books. Darren did move into a tie for 14th place in the points standings when the night was over.

July 11th Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series at I-90 Speedway

Darren did a great job Saturday night at I-90 Speedway Hartford, South Dakota. There were 52 cars there. He started 9th in his heat race (dead last) and finished 4th!! This gave him passing points and put him in the redraw and allowed him to go to the A Main. He started 4 th in the final race and fell back a few spots. With 12 laps to go he spun around in turn 2 and had to go to the back of the pack. (There were 20 cars in the final race) Within the 12 laps he was able to finish 13th! This great night allowed him to go from 19th in points to 15th place in the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series points.

Darren had a rough start to the weekend at Limaland with a last place finish in the A Main after getting stacked up with some cars in turn 1. He followed up that performance with a solid showing at Waynesfield with a 3rd place finish in which he started at 15th.

Rob Chaney notched another Engine Pro NRA Sprint Invaders victory by winning Limaland Motorsports Park’s prestigious Run for the Rabbit memorial race. Limaland, in conjunction with the Lima AutoMall, holds this event every year to remember Travis “The Rabbit” Miller who thrilled fans on the famous high-banked quarter-mile in his sprint car. The 10th Annual Run for the Rabbit got off to a tough start for last week’s feature winner, Darren Long, and Jeff Williams. Several cars stacked up in turns one and two with the end result being parked cars for both drivers. Neil Sheppard succumbed to the relentless pressure of Rob Chaney by the fifth lap and Chaney went on to claim his first victory of the year at Limaland. Chaney’s victory also earned him a spot in this year’s King of the Quarter-Mile. Ron Blair ran a solid second and Tim Hunter charged from ninth to finish third.

Waynesfield Motor Sports Park Race Summary:
The winged warriors of the 360 sprint cars were the next feature to take over the track. When the race started, the cars didn't make it back to the flagstand before the red flag brought the race to a halt. Tim Hunter and Mike Dunlap both ended up flipping and coming to rest on their sides in turn two. The drivers were not injured but their pride must have been. As the safety crew worked to clean up the mess, Hunter and Dunlap had a heated exchange of words as to who hit who and caused the wreck. The track officials were able to keep the drivers far enough apart to avoid a physical confrontation but they sure had a diffence of opinion as to who caused the mishap. The remaining sprint cars were lined back up for a complete restart. Tim Allison shot out into the lead as the green flag waved and his only challenge would come after a late race restart with just 2 laps to go to the finish. Neil Shepherd took one shot at passing Allison for the lead on the bottom of the track but Allison quickly slammed the door on him. Tim Allison went on to win his 2nd sprint race of the season at Waynesfield Raceway Park. This was Allison's 96th career sprint car win. He says his goal is to win over 100 races before he retires from driving and at this rate he may very well get to that point during this 2009 season. Shepherd went on to finish 2nd in the sprint car feature event. The most impressive run of the night goes to Darren Long by finishing 3rd after starting in the 15th position. The sprint car heat winners were Mike Dussel, Mike Dunlap, and Neil Shepherd.

The second feature of the night was the Elwer Fence Sprints. Immediately after taking the green flag from flagman Jon Burden, Sheldon Haudenschild took a quick tumble in turn one bringing out the red flag which forced a complete restart. After realigning the field, the green flag waved again and it was Darren Long bolting to the lead and never looking back. Long established a comfortable straightaway lead over Tim Allison who came under fire from defending track champion JR Stewart. Stewart moved past Allison at the half-way mark but never put a dent in Long’s lead. The race finished without a hitch and Darren Long took his first win at Limaland, qualified for the 2009 King of the Quarter Mile, and finally got his season on track.

We ran with the NRA Sprint Invaders at Lawrenceburg Speedway last night. In Hot Laps I had power steering troubles & in the Heat race I didn't have brakes. Very frustrating. We were hoping we had the problems fixed and started 16th for the "A" Main. I was passing cars like crazy. A Red Flag came out with 5 laps to go. This put me at 2nd place, but couldn't make that final pass for the win. We are so excited about the finish. It has given us our confidence back that we have been needing.

Last Weekend Recap:

Due to Rain in St. Louis last weekend the race was also cancelled there. We got all the way there and then they cancelled. We then took off north to Knoxville, Iowa to race on Saturday night. We started 3rd in the 6th heat and finished 2nd. This took us to the "A" Main event starting 12th. I was up to 7th and went to the outside to pass and my left tire was clipped and the Axel broke. This sent me flipping in the air several times, landing and then flipping over again. I am fine. What a season so far. We are pressing forward expecting great things for Darren Long Motorsports.

I would like to thank all the fans who came out to Lima Land last Friday night. What a great crowd for opening night. We started the night out great by Winning the McDonald's "Dash for Cash". We made it to the "A" Main starting 5th. I was up to 3rd and bounced the car around and stopped backwards on the track. I had to go to the back of the pack and finished 11th. It was a very bumpy ride Friday night!

Friday night wasn't bad. There were 65 cars there. I finished 5th in my heat and 6th in my B Main. I didn't make the feature, but was ready to try again Saturday night. Saturday night I was excited to start 4th in my heat. We had a bad start to my heat and they made us start again. The 2nd start was just as bad, but they let us go green. I was on the outside row getting ready to turn into turn 1 when the guy on the inside slid up and clipped my left front tire. This flipped my car and spun me into the inner wall. We spent the rest of the race tearing the car apart and replacing it with new parts so it was loadable to head home. It was a long drive back to Ohio after having a weekend you weren't expecting and wanting to have.

I drove to Maxim on Thursday & Friday to pick up my other race car frame. We spent all day yesterday putting the car together. I am pleased to announce the cars are put together and ready to Chassis Dyno next Friday. I will be traveling to Indiana on Friday to pick up my two motors from Gaerte Engines and doing a Chassis Dyno on both cars. We have last minute things that we are waiting on and doing, but feel very good about what's done. We are looking forward to Dallas, Texas in less than 2 weeks.

Getting Ready

We have officially back on board with us this year: ML Tech services, Thompson Construction, JC Lawn Care and Engler Machine & Tool. We are still in sponsorship negotiations with Potash Corporation and Mr. Manhole.

We have 2 of our cars 85% finished and Maxim should have our other frame ready for pick up late next week. I just spoke with Gaerte Motors today and our 2 motors should be completed and ready for pick up late next week also. The new race trailer is finally completed and ready to go.

This week, my 18 month old daughter Mya, has spent time with me in the race shop. She has truly enjoyed all the wrenches and bolts. She also found her way up two of the steps on the ladder. So as a great dad, I took her up to the top! She's just like her dad. Always on the move and discovering new things.

We can't wait to start our new racing season in Dallas, Texas March 19th & 20th.

I hope everyone is having a great winter. I have been very busy this winter preparing for our 2009 season. I am in the process of healing up from neck surgery I had done on January 6th. I am very excited about this 2009 racing season. Many of you have heard we are running the 360 ASCS Lucas Oil National Tour. With this tour it will also allow us to race 10-15 times at Lima Land and Waynesfield here locally.

We have purchased a new race trailer, in the process of building race cars, and I am having motors built, as I speak, by my new engine builder, Joe Gaerte.

I am so thankful for my local sponsors coming on board with us again this 2009 season along with Local sponsorship from Potash Corporation. We are also in communication with Potash Corporation about Corporate sponsorship and hope to hear back soon.

I will start our 2009, 360 ASCS Lucas Oil National Tour, in Mesquite,Texas on March 20th & 21st.

Don't hold me to it but I am going to try and blog weekly to keep everyone informed on what's going on not only with the race team, but also what I'm experiencing in everyday life.

The closest points battle of the evening was between JR Stewart and Mike Miller for the Elwer Fence Incorporated Sprint Car championship. The combatants lined up third and sixth respectively for the last feature of the year. Dustin Daggett wasted no time in blasting to the front when the green flag waved. The first caution waved for Tim Allison who slowed in turn one. Daggett resumed his blistering pace with Darren Long and Mike Brecht in tow. The next stoppage was for Jared Horstman who took a nasty tumble at the end of the backstretch. The restart had Brecht lined up on Daggett’s bumper but he could do nothing to stop Daggett’s dominance. Tim Allison’s tough night got worse on lap six when he brought out the red flag for a flip in turn two. Daggett picked up where he left off when the green waved and coasted to his second victory of the year at Limaland Motorsports Park. Stewart finished third and collected his first track championship.

The final races of the evening were the 10-lap King of the Quarter-Mile race for each division. The field for each race was comprised of 2008 feature winners. Jon Henry put an exclamation point on his season by dominating the Professional Computer Company segment. JR Stewart, the 2008 Limaland and EFI-NRA Sprint Invaders champion, took a page from Henry’s book of dominance and claimed his first sprint King of the Quarter-Mile title.

Ron Blair was going to teach Allison that the bottom of the track was the shorter way around. For all 20 laps Blair worked the bottom with Allison chasing him on the top. Allison was able to pull along side Blair at one point while the leaders were working their way past lapped traffic. Blair stayed with his game plan and held a 6 car length advantage over Allison at the finish line. Kent Wolters had a solid run to finish 3rd. Luke Hall, Wolters, Mike Brecht, and Darren Long won the sprint car heat races. JR Stewart was the winner of the sprint B-main.

Limaland NRA Race Cancelled, Darren finishes in 2nd place.

The EFI-NRA Sprint Invaders returned to action on the famed high-banks of Limaland Motorsports Park for the 9th Annual Run for the Rabbit and the NRA vs. 305 sprint car challenge. Forty-two sprint cars packed the pits to celebrate the memory of Travis “the Rabbit” Miller. The action was fast and furious. Ron Blair led a 22-car starting field to the green flag waved long-time Limaland flagman, on Burden. Blair held the lead for six laps until JR Stewart passed him after starting fourth. Stewart had the race under control for the next 12 laps before the yellow flag waved for Stuart Brubaker who made contact with the wall in turn three. Stewart led Mike Dussel, Blair, John Ivy, and Mike Miller as the race restarted. Blair was able to get past Dussel but no one had the ability to get close to the streaking Stewart. The win was Stewart’s first of the year and an important victory on two fronts. “I raced go-karts against Travis and I’ve always wanted to win this race. Plus, I have my first win for my car owner, Ron Hammons. Now the pressure is off.”, said Stewart.

Darren had a different ride with the Hammons Motorsports car as his engine arrived a little too late but his bad luck continued as he wrecked on the first lap of the feature. Darren had put the car on the pole in the feature but he got together early with Jared Horstman and was done for the evening.

The second feature of the evening was the Elwer Fence Sprints. Darren Long and Jared Horstman came together coming out of turn two and the pole car of Long’s was done for the evening. Horstman took the lead after a complete restart and led the first 13 laps of the race. But, Horstman had his car set up to run the low groove and Mr. Excitement, Tim Allison, was in his office as he reeled Horstman in quickly while rocketing around the upper rim of the track. It appeared Allison was going to win going away until a caution on lap 20 for Dwain Leiber and Kent Wolters bunched the field. On the restart, JR Stewart was glued to Allison until the first corner. Allison went high and Stewart chose low. As the checkered flag waved, both cars sped to the finish line with Allison picking his first win of the year by a car-length.
